Perform the following steps to validate any credit card number details.
Our credit card validator tool has the following uses, among others:
To ensure safe online transactions: Our checker can be used by online sellers to check the credit card numbers provided by buyers to ensure safe online transactions.
For testing purposes: Our CC validator can also be used to check different brands card numbers for testing purposes. When you create dummy credit/debit card numbers for website testing and checkout form testing, etc., you can make sure that those dummy numbers are valid by using our tool. This way, the testing will be carried out accurately.
To educate individuals on the validity of credit card numbers: Our tool can also be used to illustrate the validity of card numbers. They can be used to first test a random number and then a number belonging to an actual card. The easy-to-use interface helps our tool be even more suitable for illustrative purposes.
Our online credit card validator has a very straightforward working. It utilizes a simple algorithm known as the Luhn algorithm to verify whether the credit card numbers are valid or not.
Another name for the Luhn algorithm is the “modulus 10” algorithm. In this algorithm, various calculations are performed on the provided number to ensure that the final result is divisible by 10.
The Luhn algorithm calculation involves the following steps:
Every second digit (starting from the rightmost end of the string) is doubled. For example, in this string 6011 6896 1656 2116, every second digit would be 6011 6896 1656 2116.
If a digit, upon doubling, becomes greater than 9, subtract 9 from it (for example, doubling 5 is 10, which means 9 will have to be subtracted from 10). To continue our example from above, this is what the string would look like 3021 3896 2616 4126
After that, all the digits in the string, including the doubled and undoubled ones, are added up. According to our example, this is what the calculation will look like 3+0+2+1 3+8+9+6 2+6+1+6 4+1+2+6
If the sum of all the numbers ends in 0, the Luhn algorithm is proved to be satisfied. But if the sum does not end in 0, then it means the Luhn algorithm is not satisfied. In our example, the sum of the calculation is 60, which means that this number satisfies the Luhn algorithm.
In the context of the Luhn algorithm, the checksum refers to the last digit of the credit card number. It is especially calculated and added to the string to make sure that it satisfies the Luhn algorithm.
